Nike positions the Rival Fly 4 as an entry level racing and speed day shoe that bridges the gap between a traditional lightweight trainer and a modern road racing model.
It is built for tempo runs, intervals and shorter races where runners want a responsive toe off, moderate cushioning and a secure fit.
It targets neutral runners who like a ground connected feel but still want enough foam for protection at faster paces.
Midsole, cushioning and ride: The midsole uses Cushlon 3.0 foam, a revised compound that is softer and more responsive than in previous Rival Fly versions, giving a more cushioned yet still lively ride.
A large forefoot Air Zoom unit is embedded under the ball of the foot to provide noticeable pop at toe off, adding spring when pushing the pace.
Upper, fit and comfort: The upper is a lightweight mono mesh or engineered mesh package designed for breathability.
Outsole and durability: Rubber is strategically placed in high wear zones to deliver adequate durability and reliable grip on typical road conditions without adding excess weight.
